A dance piece transcendent bridge between China and Germany, concept from artist Ying Xiao. It unfolds in real-time across time zones, showcasing a simultaneous online performance that highlights the fluidity of intercultural communication. Seamlessly blending the rich dance heritages of both nations, this performance features artists from diverse backgrounds who collaborate in a synchronized dance, despite geographical separations. This pioneering initiative, funded and celebrated by the German Arts Foundation, exemplifies the potential of art to unite, offering a tapestry of movements that articulate a universal language of emotion and artistic expression. This endeavor stands as a testament to the power of dance in fostering global understanding and harmony. Performance in 2022.

In the context of increasing separation between real and virtual spaces, how can people reconstruct their sense of self? Is it still possible to repair trust between individuals? What role might art play in this scenario? A series of questions converge towards one point: how we can forge new "connections" in the post-pandemic era. In "We Are Not Islands," the artist attempts to structure the theme of "relationships" using two media forms to explore their potential effects. The project is implemented at Spontan Studio in Düsseldorf, with the site being simultaneously exhibited online and through documentary materials at the "Niguang·Chuang" space in Tianjin.
