Bio
Born in 1990 in China, Ying Xiao has emerged as a visionary choreographer and dancer, renowned for blending the intricacies of Chinese classical and folk dances with the fluidity of modern and ballet movements. His journey in the world of dance commenced at China National University, where he majored in Choreography and graduated in 2014. Ying further expanded his artistic horizons at the Folkwang University of the Arts, Germany, where he earned a Master's degree in Dance Composition.
Ying's illustrious career, which started in 2013, is marked by his involvement in numerous successful dance projects. Between 2014 and 2017, he imparted his knowledge as a lecturer at Jiangxi College of Arts and Nanchang University, nurturing future generations of dancers.
In his artistic endeavors, Ying is known for his cross-disciplinary collaborations, embracing new media, and delving into the relationship between improvisation and choreography. He draws inspiration from the juxtaposition of performance art and dance, often set against the contemporary party cultures of Asia and Europe. Currently based in Germany, Ying continues to explore and redefine the boundaries of dance.
Under the mentorship of esteemed educators such as Stephan Brinkmann, Henrietta Horn, Lutz Förster, Su Zihong, and Associate Professor Li Jin, Ying has developed a unique style that reflects a fusion of diverse influences and rigorous training. His expertise encompasses Chinese classical and folk dances, modern dance, ballet, and Tai Chi.
